Exercise Bikes are increasingly in demand as the population and demographics of Auckland changes.
Riding exercise bikes works out your hamstrings, calves, hip flexors and quadriceps. … The difference between upright stationary bikes and recumbent exercycles is that on a recumbent bike, your legs are primarily responsible for powering the machine, but on an upright bike, your core and upper body share the work load with your legs. This is an excellent way to regain or retain low impact fitness. Plus has the added benefit of calorie burning . A half hour on a stationary bicycle helps up your daily calorie burn.
What to look for in exercise bikes:
Look to make sure there is an adjustable seat both up and down and back and forwards.
Look to see that the exercycle is stable and that you can get on and off with ease.
Sit on the exercise bikes to find one that has a comfortable seat.
The question of how an EXERCISE BIKE and a
RECUMBENT EXERCISE BIKE differ comes up often.
For those who are used to using gym equipment or who go to a gym this is probably not difficult to understand. These facilities have a range of upright bikes, recumbent bikes and often spin bikes and spin classes for the more determined cyclists.
But for others, especially those who are advised to get an exercise bike for rehabilitation, or because of an ongoing health issue I’d like to take the time to explain the difference.
Lets start with the Recumbent: A Recumbent Bike is an Exercycle which you can sit on like sitting in a chair. It has a good supportive seat with a back on it. This is particularly useful if you have extra support requirements while seated.
A typical upright Exercise Bike by comparisson is probably what most of us think of when talking about exercycles. It has a seat similar to that which you might find on an outdoor bike and you sit upright which is particularly important for those with back issues. This is the more common type of exercycle which you might be referred to use by a specialist after knee surgery, leg and knee injuries and if you other rehabilitation needs.
Here at fit2 run we carry all the different exercycles in stock and can guarantee that the exercise bike that we will provide for you will be steady, reliable and efficient.

The EXERCISE BIKE is often considered an option for home fitness routines. Why are they so popular?
(Consumer 2014) noted that cycling provides both a convenient cardiovascular workout as well as an excellent low impact option for home exercise maintenance.
In fact experts go on to say that the Exercise Bike is a powerful tool to help you improve your fitness level. And that even a short sessions can be beneficial, according to numerous studies.
Sometimes called stationary bikes the exercise bike provides the cardiovascular benefits of pedaling a bicycle without going outside. It has the advantage of cycling without the traffic, the uneven road surfaces, and the weather.
It has the added advantage of getting an effective aerobic workout with minimal joint strain. This is very important for many who are recovering from a previous injury, surgery or muscular weakness.
There are THREE MAIN STYLES of exercycle re:
The Upright bike,
The “spin” bike
and The Recumbent.

SPRING has arrived and with it the momentum to get fit and sort out your Home Fitness Equipment workout.
It won’t be too long now until the season we all look forward to – summer – which is just around the corner.
The question for Spring is what sort of home fitness equipment is best going to work for you to get yourself in good shape for summer – and look stunning in that swimsuit or in that lycra gear!
The Treadmill is ever popular particularly with the unpredictable spring weather and its tendency to rain and prevent outside training. It gives you good opportunity to keep up the mileage and the walking or jogging through these months and to be ready for the summer.
Or, if you are like many of us rowers who can’t wait to be out paddling there is the option of hiring of a rowing machine - More and more we can see paddling becoming a water activity many choose. Not only with the school teams who are in full swing preparing for the Mardi competition, but also all the paddle boarders out there on our glorious harbour. Auckland has one of the best harbours for these sort of activities, which is no surprise given how stunning and accessible our harbour is.
Then there is the Exercise bike – such a good training option for those who love cycling and can’t get out on the road or trails as they will in the summer months.
Fit2run has just added new exercycles to the fleet either for rental or purchase.
Whatever your personal exercise routine is, make sure to keep up the fitness for the summer season ahead, and if at fit2run we can help by getting you going we will be very happy to assist.

A common request is to provide the right fitness equipment for recovery after knee or hip surgery or injury. Many specialists will suggest that you hire an exercycle.
The reason for this is due to the low impact gentle exercise that an exercycle provides during the rehabilitation stages. It is important to have the right exercycle which is going to provide you with maximum benefit and support the rehabilitation program.
We are happy to discuss individual needs and equipment with you at any time and have provided many clients with great options for their rehabilitation programs.
The most popular choice of fitness equipment from our experience is the treadmill. Generally the smaller treadmill in our range is the most common choice. Following this would be the rowing machines and the exercycles. Rowing machines are popular as an all round workout as are the Cross Trainers. Exercycles are popular for low impact exercise and are particularly useful when recovering from surgery or injury and where low impact low resistance is required.
What do I look for when renting an exercycle?
For some people the key point of interest is how comfortable the seat is, and this is quite valid! The exercycle needs to be comfortable to cycle on, easy to use and perform well. An exercycle needs to be able to fit your size and your weight so if you are very short or tall it needs to be adjustable. If you have had some injury or surgery you may have some restricted movement. It’s important that you can get on and off the bike and manage any stepping through the bike if the model of bike requires this.
Exercycles are a great way to get fit.
The exercycle provides your thighs (Quadriceps) rehabilitation while controlling the stresses to the knee ligaments.
With Pedaling on the exercycle, forces are applied to the ligaments, and the posterior structures of the knee joint as the knee is tilted. The knee muscles can modify their forces as a result you biuld strength without doing harm
Therefore, by controlling the mode of cycling with varying seat heights and pedal positions, the ligaments can be relieved from these forces during the initial stages of the rehabilitation process.
An exercise routine on the exercycle will help to build the strength in the muscles that support the knee joint, as a result you will gain more strength and mobility.
We have exercycles available at $12 per week for a 12 week term that are just perfect for knee rehabilitation purposes.
